Greetings,
This past year has brought me some welcome opportunities. I was offered the position of Superintendent of the Fine Art Department at the Missouri State Fair. I get to work with the Missouri Arts Council, with teaching artists, and working artists, professional artists and amateurs— some of my favorite people. I help pick the artists-in-residence, plan the exhibits, reception, awards and — this year — helped conceive and launch a new, student section. ...a big challenge for me, and very satisfying.
Then, I was asked to judge the Palm Sunday Art Show in Versailles. This is a show that I've entered myself, most of the past 25 years or so. At first, I was entering as an amateur, later as a professional, and still later began to receive awards regularly. So, the honor of judging it this year was especially meaningful to me.
April through May, I had an Art Show hanging at the Ashby-Hodge Gallery at Central Methodist University in Fayette. They did a wonderful job of promoting me, including the creation of an I-Tunes video of the show with my voice "walking" viewers through the tour, and hosting a lovely reception. It was a successful show also in the respect that sales went well. The Gallery even bought a major piece!
Next week, I leave for Moscow, Russia to spend two weeks in intensive language studies, a continuation of four years of study so far, and soaking up the Art and culture while sketching, painting and photographing to develop information for a series I'm planning that will be displayed NEXT May at the Liberty Center in Sedalia. I'm finishing up a book project that I've been collaborating on with a friend and will be working on a
"Preschool-Park Room" at my church — Parkview Christian.
(note the plug for my church— a great place to worship and
learn more about Jesus, by the way
and you're invited.) I'll be doing
something I love to do —
painting on the walls. God's been
good to me this year, making me
more aware than ever of just
how very good He is.
I'll be teaching a series on composition — Composition Kaleidoscope - at State Fair College in the Fall on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 Ð 8:00 starting October 2. Come and join the fun.
Have a great summer,
Linda
